Turning your weakness into your strength

I help guide the student along, having them discover much of the information in a trial and error fashion. I tend to use the questions they are struggling with the most, making similar examples, then walking them through these problems and breaking down the problems until the student understands the how the process works.
I have been tutoring for over seven years, starting with my peers in tenth grade. I have tutored a wide range of subjects, from Geometry through Calculus III, from general computer knowledge through utilizing the advanced functions of Microsoft Access. I am patient but firm. In order to be a success in the business world, one must be able to write and speak the English language correctly. If the student knows English, everything else in general business can be taught. My teaching experience/background began in 1976 when I enrolled in the Teacher Corps-Peace Corps program at Texas Southern University in Houston, TX where I pursued a masters degree in secondary education (math). The program included university course work at Texas Southern University, student teaching at a local high school in Houston, and a two-year overseas commitment as a Peace Corps Volunteer teacher. I completed all of the requirements except returning to Texas Southern to complete the remaining course for my degree. From about 2003 to the present, I have tutored students in English as a second language and mathematics.
