With my numerous experiences in education, I think I could be a great asset in helping students become more knowledgeable. I have worked as a Tutor, Assistant Teacher, and did a short placement as an Interim Teacher. I can easily adjust to changing environments that will best suit the student’s potential. I was a Tutor in an after school program, and was an Assistant Teacher in a Special Education classroom. I finished an Interim Teaching placement in a middle school A.P. English classroom.

During my four years at East TN State University (ETSU), I tutored college students in General and Organic Chemistry, and multiple Psychology courses. I also taught for Kaplan Test Prep in small classes and prepared high school students for the SAT and ACT. I graduated in 2004 with a BS in Psychology. I then went to South College to get my teaching certificate. I student taught for 16 weeks under two wonderful mentoring teachers, and started subbing in January 2005. I teach on a pyramid style. It is necessary for a child to have a very well defined broad base of early skills to build upon. Any child having difficulty in 3rd grade on in reading or math must remediate the early skills to make progress towards the skills needed to advance to the next grade. I have used groupings/workshops in my classroom to both teach the lacking skills and to demonstrate to students why they are important and show how they support the grade skills being taught. Hands-on and interesting projects help to keep children interested in those basic skills.
