I hold a Bachelor and a Master of Science degree in Science Education. I was certified in the State of Louisiana to teach Chemistry, Biology, General Science, and Computer Literacy. I taught high school Chemistry, Physics, Computer Literacy, and Study Skills. I have taught Biology Lab courses and Computer Information Systems courses at the college level, and have substantial experience teaching algebra to students preparing for the GED exam. The most important element of teaching is to realize one is teaching a person. In a tutoring situation, it is especially important to discover exactly how to present material to the student. As a teacher, I seek to understand the student and then present the material using terms and examples the student can understand. Finally, I literally believe the only “stupid question” is one the learner doesn’t ask.

1) Give the person you are turtoring an opportunity to tell you where they are having a problem. 2) While working through problems monitor the person you are tutoring to see if there are other problems. 3) Suggest changes. Never force them. There isn't one correct way. Make a suggestion on how to improve and explain why you are making the suggestion. 4) Do multiple versions of a similar problem. The first time I will complete the problem, explaining each step. The next time the person I am tutoring will guide me through the problem, telling me what to do next. Then the person being tutored will do the problem while I observe. 5)Let them make mistakes. Explain why it is a mistake and show them how to detect it in the future. I have been in the educational field for over 15 years as a tutor, aide, and a classroom teacher. I have a degree in Food and Nutrition which contained many credit hours of science. In fact, my adviser wanted my to minor in Science because of all of my credits. I have taken 12 credit hours of Biology, 12 credit hours of Chemistry, and 9 credit hours of Anatomy and Physiology.
