I love interacting with children and teaching them to the best of my ability. I know that each child is unique and you have to truly understand the child and the stresses and concerns they have with learning, before you can teach them. I am very patient, kind,and understanding. I want the child to know that he or she is capable of learning anything and will allow them to reach that potential. I believe in hands on learning and being active. This way the child can remember what they learned more easily, but I am willing to teach in any way that will suite my student. I enjoy working with students who are elementary aged up through college aged. I particularly love working with middle school students. I am sensitive to student's individual needs and realize that everyone learns at their own pace and in their own way. When I tutor in mathematics, I try to help students develop conceptual understanding, not just procedural knowledge. I believe that all students are capable of understanding mathematics and am able to provide different methods of instruction based on the student's needs. With my background in literacy, I also try to help students see mathematics as a language, or as another way to express ideas.
