I have instructed elementary, middle, and high school students thus far. In addition to academic subjects I have tutored guitar at at the beginning and intermediate level. I have studied Sociology and thus I have knowledge about qualitative and quantitative research. I have also received a B at the 1st level and an A at the 2nd level of Stanford's Program in Writing and Rhetoric.

I would describe my teaching style in terms of the activity, belaying. Slack is given to the rope at times so that the climber may advance, or traverse, the face of the mountain. When the climber feels tired, or incapable, the rope needs tightening so the climber stays secure. If the climber falls from the face of the mountain the taught rope will prevent injury or possible demise. I tend to give my students slack when I feel they are advancing in terms of curriculum, yet once I notice their tendency to rest, or falter, I tighten my teaching approach by using more straightforward methods so that they are not confused, or do not wear themselves out with struggle. This is all so they reach the top of whatever mountain they choose to conquer.
My bachelor's degree in English serves as an example for the effort and time committed to education and a service to academia. I learned literar ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a young child I wanted to be a teacher but eventually went into a different field but the love of teaching never left me. Being detail oriented, I enjoy the process of explaining things methodically and creatively. I like to approach things in a constructive way and always try to view it in the child's perspective. It is important to encourage and motivate the children and make learning fun and easy for them.

More About This Tutor...

Since high school I have always been in a postion as a mentor and tutor. One of my first experiences was as a camp counselor for inner-city youth. Since then my affinity for teaching has grown while serving as a Bible study teacher and private tutor, to the position I now have as Assistant Director of our church's English Ministry. In addition to supervising the teaching staff I am the primary lecturer. I have experience tutoring children in grades 1 - 12 as well as college students in the areas of English and Mathematics. Currently I am finishing up my B.A in Applied Mathematics at U.C. Berkeley.
I know of few things that compare to the moment a concept or idea clicks in a student's head. Regardless if it registers with a knowing nod or is the result of a difficult grinding process, the feeling for me is the same. I firmly believe that no two children think in exactly the same way ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I believe that education and learning are two of the most exciting and fulfilling elements of life and believe that helping others to learn is a way to give something back to this world. I have a Masters degree in Business. Not surprisingly, my math skills are quite good. Additionally, I possess strong communication skills (verbal and written) and am working on my first novel. In my professional life, I have managed staff and welcomed opportunities to teach and mentor. An intern from years ago recently contacted me and told me that he still fondly remembers us working on a white board to problem solve an issue. I believe that learning and problem solving should be fun, a puzzle that can be cracked if we just approach it the right way.
I love the learning process. Few things in life are as rewarding as teaching and learning. Stylistically, I would consider myself to a patient and ... read more
