As one who holds a Bachelor's and Master's in the arts, I believe in the power of exploratory learning. However, as one who has spent considerable time working in computers and networking, I value the attainment of hard knowledge. When the two are combined according to a student's particular learning modality(ies), then learning become meaningful and accelerated.
In my professional career I was largely self-taught. My success depended upon my ability to learn new concepts based upon my current knowledge set, and to continue growing on that basis.
