American History Tutors & Teachers for Lessons, Instruction or Help in Montandon, PA

I have taken extra American History courses in addition to my elementary education courses for my degree. I use a combination of both online games and Websites and hands-on manipulatives. First, I like for the student to take multiple intelligence tests and then I know how best to help the student. The information I gain from the analysis is extremely informative. It tells me where the students' strengths lie such as some students are musically inclined, some are visual learners, auditory learners, some are mathematicians and various other styles. Then, the style that they learn through the best is how I would teach the student; this is based on Gardner's Multiple Intelligence. I taught and tutored ESL two years before entering law school. I hae taught college classes as an adjunct and later FT professor at Penn College for 25 years. I currently serve as Career Outreach Coordinator for HACC-Lebanon Campus. I have tutored many students, particularly in areas such as writing essays. I also served as a reader for the SAT Writing section, so I am familiar with what they are seeking. I am very proficient in grammar and structure. My teaching style with students of all ages is to facilitate their learning as opposed to simply feeding them what I feel is the best response. Students learning is maximized when they can take ownership of and pride in their work. I am very patient. Recognizing that all students learn differently, I seek to ascertain their learning styles and then adjust my tutoring style to that learning style.

I believe in constructivism. Students learn more when they make their own learning. They need to see the real world application of the material and how it applies to them. I try to create tasks that are hands-on, use authentic materials, and encourage students to collaborate with others and think outside of the box. I have taught high school in three different countries: Germany, UK and USA. I am passionate about foreign languages and social studies, and I care about my students.
