A Little Bit About Me...

As a current undergraduate chemistry and honors student at Arcadia University, I was recommended to become a tutor from several of my teachers my first year in college. I became a certified CRLA tutor and started tutoring my sophomore year of college; I've been tutoring ever since. I tutor chemistry, biology, math (beginner algebra, statistics, calculus I and II), and calculus based physics.
I love working with students and teaching them something new. The best feeling is when someone understands a concept that they didn't before; when something "clicks" for a student, I feel as if my job as a tutor was done. I'm a very determined, persistent, caring, and patient person; all of these characteristics have helped me become a great tutor.

A Little Bit About Me...

I've tutored kids within the inner cities of Atlanta, through a program called Emory reads. As a tutor I was responsible for helping them with their homework which included all subjects. I've also served as a teacher's aid, my responsibility was to ensure that the kids paid attention and address any problems in understanding that came up during the lesson.
I use a lot of repetition and the asking of questions to ensure that students are learning concepts. I also try to give them analogies to help them remember things. I love working with children, as the oldest in a big family, I have often served as caretaker while my father is at work. I currently have an 8 year old younger brother who I'm working with as well as one in his Sophomore year of High school. I'm helping him with algebra and pre-calc.

More About This Tutor...

I have always believed that the greatest mistake a student of science can make is to memorize the material; there is simply too much material to memorize. I tutor the way I learn: to work to make real connections between topics and avoid brute force meorization. The key to me is engage the student and attempt to make them like the material they are learning. I realize how competitive and difficult science coursework can be and I always look to help the student feel confident.
As a student at Rutgers, I have been helping others with science related coursework for many years. As a senior, I decided to officially begin tutoring. I created a website called Premedtutors.com, and worked in the Rutgers Learning Center as a tutor in Biology, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Physics. I will be attending Drexel University College of Medicine this August. As a student who has ... read more

I believe as an educator you have to understand the topic you are teaching and the students your are teaching. As a teacher you are dealing with various levels of learning as well different personalities. I believe you have to be open to what works for the individual and the classroom. Many young students do not understand why they must learn and why it is important. We as educators must show students how education applies to all life, especially theirs. Passion and drive can be all the difference for a childs success. Therefore inspiration is vital and we must provide it to the best of our abilities.

A Little Bit About Me...

I began my college career at Columbia University, N.Y. where I matriculated in the top 5% of entrants. I moved to Africa where I lived and returned 10 years later. I joined the United Nations where I worked at headquarters New York and later as a field officer in the Middle East and South Africa. Part of my assignment during my stay in the Middle East was to teach the local staff English. As a member of the diplomatic corps to Namibia, Southwest Africa, my task was to draft the preliminary paper to be presented at the General Assembly in respect of the independence of that country. I returned to the U.S. and worked as executive assistant to Bradford Morse, the Administrator of the United Nations Development program. I moved to Australia thereafter and worked as the Assistant Cultural Affairs Office, U.S. Embassy in Canberra, Australia (the nation's capital). During this period I co ... read more

I am an English Graduate from SUNY New Paltz and have a broad range of interests. My time as an English student has taught me to use more critical research and analytical skills. I am hoping my degree will enable me to help others to improve their passion for writing and reading, not just teach them how to approach/explicate or write about a work, but to really find enjoyment in it and relate it to their own life in some way. I have written numerous research papers in many different areas of study (English, Chemistry, Math, Philosophy, Psychology, etc.) and have tutored Mandarin students in English at SUNY Ulster.

I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the State University of New York at SUNY New Paltz and I have matriculated into the Master of Arts in Biology program at the same university. As a result of my many research and laboratory reports I have excellent writing and typing skills and have completed many writing assignments including numerous essays in various fields as a requirement of completing my Bachelor of Science degree.
