A Little Bit About Me...

I have tutored on a volunteer basis with the Holyoke Tutor/Mentor Program for more than a year. I have also tutored privately. My experience has been with adults, however, I would like to add experience working with secondary school students. I can help with SAT's, MCAS, and just provide support for a student who needs some extra help.
I like to get a sense of what the student already knows and try to build on that knowledge.

Tutor specializing in Math, Chemistry, and Physics

I am very patient and can explain every topic a number of different ways. Whether something needs to be proven numerically or with a picture, I can cater the right style to the student.
I have 8+ years of tutoring experience. My experience includes working with 8th graders, high schoolers, college kids, and adults. I've tutored from algebra I to precalculus, and have lots of experience tutor chemistry and physics as well. All of my students have shown improvement gradewise and had a better understanding. My goal is to give the student a solid base so that in the future, they don't need a tutor anymore. My experience with tutoring, employee training and working with my own two children has shown me that there are many different learning styles and paces. It is exciting to find that key for each person and watch their growth and development through learning. Up front, I believe it is important to understand the goals of the student and their family and then focus on providing the support necessary to see them achieve and exceed those goals.

More About This Tutor...

I first began tutoring under the direction of Nancy Donohue-Berthiaume at Quinsigamond College. I turored in Introductory Accounting, basic and college level mathematics. In my Sophmore symester, I was presented with a challenge. A young man who was both Dislexic, and Mathlexic was failing basic mathematics. In less then 1/2 hour, I was able to help him go from failing grades to straight A's. Later, I tutored fellow students in Pre-Calculus while taking the course myself. I ended up with a 4.0 GPA in that class. Later, I was provisionally certified to teach in 7th & 8th grade english and mathematics and in recent years I have felt more and more, because of my desire to help other's I would like to persue tutoring if possible.
I really enjoy tutoring students one on one better than teaching in the classroom, because of the one on one contact, because I have found it helps take the p ... read more
