After graduating from the University of Oregon with a BS in Basic Mathematics and Integrated Science, I volunteered for the Peace Corps and found myself teaching math and science in a village school in The Gambia, West Africa. I like to use visual learning methods as well as memorization and recognition methods. Seeing a diagram is sometimes not enough. Actually trying to simulate a diagram/problem on your own after seeing it once promotes better understanding. As pertaining to math, depending on the level of the learner, I would do some problems together first and then let them work through it and find out where they run into problems. I always write out the problems along with the learner. I believe that everyone has the potential to learn all subjects as long as they have the motivation and determination to learn. A Little Bit About Me...

As part of my undergraduate degree I taught English to adults. I taught English in Korea for one year before enrolling in my Masters of Education program. During the program I had two student teacher placements. My first placement was in a middle school mathematics class and my second placement was in a self-contained 5th grade classroom.
