My comments on tutoring Reading Comprehension : I am NYS certified in Literacy (grades 5-12) and English (grades 7-12), although I have several years of experience with children as young as Kindergarten.

Holding active NYS certifications in both English and Literacy has had a tremendous impact on the way I teach. I find myself much better able to engage struggling students. Quite often, particularly when it comes to reading, it is the lack of basic comprehension skills that prevent students from being able to fully engage with a text and to perform critical thinking tasks. My comments on tutoring Reading Comprehension : Teach the fundamentals of figurative language, characters and understanding plot, theme.

I have a varied style, which is geared to the learning style of my students. I teach world to text, text to text, text to life.
I was employed by the Lakeland Central School District as a substitute Teacher Aide and later in a full time capacity. I worked for the OASIS Program and later at the Alternative High School. After completing my Bachelor's Degree at Concordia College, I applied for and was accepted into the New York City Teaching Fellows Program. I graduated Pace University in 2009 with my degree in childhood education with a concentration in English. I tutored a 15 year old girl in her house for one year my last year of college.
