My comments on tutoring Marine Biology : Subject that I have taught as an elective subject.

I was employed by the Lakeland Central School District as a substitute Teacher Aide and later in a full time capacity. I worked for the OASIS Program and later at the Alternative High School. After completing my Bachelor's Degree at Concordia College, I applied for and was accepted into the New York City Teaching Fellows Program. I taught Special Education at a high needs urban high school in the Bronx. This was a challenging and rewarding experience. Many of my students continued on to post secondary schools. I am currently finishing my Master's degree program at City College of New York, expected graduation is May 2013.
I have a varied style, which is geared to the learning style of my students. I teach world to text, text to text, text to life.

More About This Tutor...

I am a student in Paris and have been tutoring middle school and high school students for three years with excellent results. I have been tutoring in math, physics, biology, French, English and German. I love helping students understand different subjects, and showing them that anything is possible. Also, I enjoy coming up with ways to make these subjects more fun for children.
I usually teach one on one, check if the student understood the class, and then do different types of exercises with them.

A Little Bit About Me...

I began mentoring students during my tenure at Regis High School, a private, full-scholarship-only high school in New York City at the age of 17. After attending Villanova University and Fordham University's Graduate School of Business Administration, I began tutoring part-time with Studypoint. I have tutored over 30 different students in nearly all academic areas, including SAT, ACT, ISEE, SSAT and Academic Programs for grades K-12. I am currently a law student at Pace Law School in White Plains, NY, and I would love to continue educating bright young minds.
I would consider my teaching style to be very organic and adaptable. I consider each student individually, and I evaluate what works best for that student in particular. I am trained in various forms of teaching, and I have a complete understanding of the various learning personalities and characteristics of students that I ha ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Being a teacher in the middle school has given me the drive and the energy to pursue different avenues of the teaching and learning process. My passion for Science and for Math has given me an edge to make each lesson fun, adventurous, mind boggling and memorable for each child that I teach. What really keeps me going in this field is that it is never static. Education is truly dynamic, evolving and ever changing. This change alone gives me the push to go beyond what I only know but to keep on excelling through professional development, reading, research, collaboration and seminars and make sure that I share it 110% to those who would really benefit...our children, our future leaders of this world.
I never give up on a child. I also never push a child on any task that are really difficult for him or her. Time and patience is an important factor in teaching and tutoring. More ... read more

More About This Tutor...

As a graduate student a Johns Hopkins University, I have acquired a love of learning of biology. I also have two academic degrees from Boston University. I have a strong grasp of many of the subcategories in biology. I would highly value the opportunity to share with youngsters my appreciation of this field of study. I would like nothing better than to see them excel!
I enjoy the learning process. I believe that tutoring is essential to guide students for growth and development of young minds. I love the challenge of finding the roadblocks that hinder learning and make the subject come together for the student. I enjoy seeing a sense of pride in their accomplishment. As a volunteer for NY Cares, I have helped many students feel good about themselves after they have accomplished their goal whatever that may be.

I believe in teaching the student how to learn on their own, rather than just telling them the answers. I believe that one of the challenges in teaching is motivating the students to be interested in learning. I believe that a good teacher who truly wants to instill life-long learning skills in his/her students challenges them by engaging and empowering them to become independent/critical thinkers/problem-solvers rather than making them dependent on him/her or on "route"/"regurgitative" learning. One must find the best approach to present the material and convey the essential elements of a lesson plan or rather “instructional session” in the classroom and the laboratory.

I love teaching and the opportunity to help children learn and improve themselves. I believe that everyone learns in different ways and my teaching style is to discern the best way for each child to learn and to have a flexible teaching style to allow for each child's unique situation and style of learning. I also think that concrete real world examples are always the best way to learn since sometimes students can see the connection with academic subjects and how it is useful to them in their everyday lives.

A Little Bit About Me...

During my time in SUNY Buffalo I took a wide variety of classes which have exposed me to different fields. Specifically, I excelled in those subjects relating to math and writing. As a result of my success, I was able to tutor my peers who were taking those classes with me, as well as those who had previously done poorly and were re-taking those classes. In regards to math, I took calculus and statistics, and received A's in both those subjects. Writing was also an integral part of all my classes when I attended Michigan State University during my freshmen year. My grammar and sentence structure was perfected, and I also learned how to write about a broad range of topics, from U.S. History to Accounting Principles.
I believe that there is no one standardized method to teach, rather each individual is unique in their learning abilities. Therefore, while teaching I often gauge ... read more
