Spanish is one of my top subjects! I have taught Spanish 201 and 202 (intermediate level courses) at ISU as a TA, worked as a bilingual customer service rep and hold a Bachelor degree in Spanish (and Sociology) from Drake. I make understanding grammar and other concepts accessible and easy.

Teaching Assistant for Spanish 201 and 202 for two sections each semester from January 2014 to Spring 2015 at Iowa State University, Reported to Dr. Cristina Pardo Ballester. Taught Sociology of Work at ISU (Spring 2013), Introduction to Sociology, Social Problems and Race and Ethnic Relations at Grand View, and Introduction to Sociology at DMACC. I also worked as a bilingual customer service representative for Principal (Investor Specialist II) and was a Peace Corps volunteer in The Gambia, West Africa prior to pursuing my graduate studies at ISU. While I earned my bachelor's degree in communication from Loyola, I also worked as an Academic coach for high school students. I spent a year tutoring students for an academic competition that tested all skill areas including, writing, math, history and science. I spent the summer of 2006 working closely with people with disabilities. I perfected my teaching skills through hands-on learning/teaching techniques.
I believe in setting goals and working to ensure they are accomplished. In my opinion, learning should never feel like a boring chore. As a young R.O.T.C cadet, I was very driven to excel in my college education. On my way to becoming a young Army Officer, I earned two bachelor degrees, BA in Communications and BA in Accoutning. My liberal arts educations granted me opportunities to learn and excel in many arenas such as writing, math, science, and the social sciences. I learned the art of effective communication, writing extensive essays and reports, as well as giving many speeches to audiences of various sizes. Tutoring is one of my favorite jobs. I really enjoy helping students understand that they absolutely can understand a subject, and the one-on-one, focused nature of tutoring fits my personality very well. I am encouraging and very patient, but no pushover: I realize that the best way for a student to remember a concept is to play an active role in figuring it out. That is why my teaching style involves asking a lot of questions. I provide explanation when needed, but I make students fill in a lot of the gaps themselves. That way, they gain a deeper understanding of the material, and they will be able to remember it much longer.

I really enjoy getting people of all ages to learn. My day job is with Easter Seals where I work with all ages and disabilities. With both Easter Seals and tutoring, I found that it requires a wide variety of approaches to get my clients to learn. I have learned a lot of patience and creativity in this time.
