My teaching style depends on the student. I am comfortable with trying different study methods in order to figure out why my student is having trouble with a particular subject.
I have a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. I love being able to help students feel comfortable with the material they are studying. I have tutored numerous times throughout college, and would like to get back into tutoring students because I find it to be rewarding. I think the best way a student can learn is one-on-one because then they are less fearful to ask questions or make a mistake. This is helpful because then the tutor can see where the students are struggling, and focus on that area. I also think the best way for students to learn is through having something modeled, then guide them through an example, and then done on their own. I believe that patience is a key to being a successful math tutor, because many people do not understand math as easily as others. Problems may need to be done over and over again, or reteaching in many different ways until the students can understand the material in a way that makes sense to them.

I feel that understanding the 'why' leads people to more easily grasp larger concepts and makes mistakes easier to recognize. After that practice is absolutely necessary: repetition IS the mother of learning. For children all this has to be presented in an accessible way. I try to contextualize problems in math and science in order to make them easier for children to grasp. Youtube has made potentially dangerous science projects unnecessary in order to illustrate certain concepts, while additional resources, such as the Khan Academy, make math problems easier to review.
