Recent Graduate Looking To Help

I am a recent graduate of Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania (May 2011). I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a concentration in creative writing. I also have a minor in photography. During my time at Mercyhurst College, I worked as a writing tutor in the school’s writing center. When students entered the center, it was my job to immediately make them feel comfortable by greeting them with a friendly smile and asking what I could help them with. After this, the students’ explained their assignment and expressed any concerns they had or anything their professors wanted them to work on. As an adult I realized that my true calling was teaching, and I advanced my education to become an educator. I am a third generation teacher and have a passion to help young students see their potential and achieve their dreams. Over the last eleven year I have spent 10 years in the classroom teaching eighth grade Language Arts, tenth grade through senior English. I have also taught World Literature, Speech I, Speech II, Drama, Debate, Group Discussion, and Speech/Composition. In the past year I have tutored students and worked as an ISTEP+ proctor.
My teaching style is a delicate balance of content knowledge, compassion, and flexibility. In 1992 I graduated from Bowling Green State University (BGSU) with a degree in music education, vocal and trumpet emphasis. Since then, I have been employed by Defiance Area Youth for Christ, and it has been my privilege to assist young people to acheieve their fullest potential in every aspect of their lives. During my employment with YFC, I have been allowed to substitute teach in schools throughout Defiance County and have done so over the last ten years.
