A Little Bit About Me...

I'm in my senior year of High School, I have worked with my siblings on their school all of my life. I've helped my little brother who has ADHD with his homework, I've worked with him through book projects, spelling tests, history homework, pretty much anything and everything. I'm also very talented in the English area, writing and grammar specifically. Can write with both my right and my left hands, I work well with children no matter the age.
Teaching style varies on the child in questions ability to learn. I'm patient and will do anything it takes to help the child.

Hidden Talents Tutoring

After graduating from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire with a degree in computer science, I started tutoring in the Academic Skills Center at UWEC and discovered this was a hidden talent. My instinctive use of the Socratic method earned praise from the director right away. While working at UWEC, I gained experience with a variety of learning and developmental disabilities, including Asperger's syndrome, visual impairment, brain damage, and dyscalculia. From 1980-1989 I worked as a Program Coordinator for a Developmental Achievement Center for mentally handicapped adults. My responsibilities included teaching, preparing learning materials for basic reading, personal finance, and vocational skills, implementing behavior programs, supervising 7 staff members, and writing quarterly lesson plans and progress reports. I also spent a couple of hours per week for 2 years, tutoring my blind supervisor on the use of computers. In 1992, I went back to college to pursue my true passion, and earned a degree in mathematics and computer science. During this time, I volunteered a couple of hours per week tutoring secondary students in math, and elementary students in reading. I began teaching private piano and oboe lessons around 1970 and continued it as time permitted until the present. It is enjoyable and rewarding to see someone work hard and feel with them the joy of their success. I have played all the instruments to varying degrees to be able to teach them. When I began substitute teaching in the 1990s I was able to teach almost every subject on every level. My strengths are reading, mathematics (including algebra and geometry), English, grammar, Spanish, and of course music.
