In December 2012, I graduated from Nicholls State University with my M.A. Degree in Psychological Counseling. One on one tutoring style--I provide one on one tutoring sessions that include the use of a variety of instructional strategies including worksheets, workbooks, sight words, vocabulary, Venn diagrams and charts, flash cards, compositions and educational websites. Group tutoring is available that would involve using the same instructional strategies, but the instruction would take place in a group setting of 2 or more students and could involve the Jigsaw method which involves all students collaborating together to achieve academic skills.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love the written word and reaching people, so I ultimately chose to major in journalism. My love for teaching and instructing students led me to pursue my minor in education. In the past three years, I've tutored undergraduates in writing (grammar, composition, etc), graduate students (editing theses), proofing resumes and technical documents, and tutoring elementary and high school students in reading and basic math.

I try to keep the material fresh and I avoid boredom and repetition at all costs. One of my best tools to connect with a young person is through humor. If the student feels relaxed they are more likely to absorb the information. I also use reverse psychology to turn the tables so they actually find themselves teaching me the material. This has been a successful tool with children I have mentored as well as my own children.
I began teaching/tutoring while in graduate school. I tutored undergrads in sociology, psychology, and social statistics. I also taught driver's education to high school students while in grad school.
