I like to do a lot of positive reinforcing and reaffirming.
I have worked with children for over 15 years. During this time I have provide homework help and tutoring in Math, Reading and Spanish. The children that I have worked with range in age from 5 to 17 years old. I have also done an extensive amount of work with infants and toddlers in the field of early learning as a nanny. Everybody learns differently at a seperate pace.

First, I examine what is needed to be helped with. Next, I sit down and ask the student what he or she seems to be struggling with and why. From there I build a lesson plan with the student and give them the tools they need to succeed. I have worked with children with ADHD and aspergers.

I was educated at the University of Reading, Berkshire, England. After college I took the TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) in Brighton, East Sussex, England. I was fortunate to teach English to a wide range of students from all over the world, at language schools in Great Britain.
I worked with students who wanted to learn conversational English. I used newspapers, magazines, BBC radio and books on tape to facilitate understanding of the language. I used specifically designed three dimensional objects to help the students understand language and form sentences; for example, a triangle was a verb, a square was a noun etc. this really helped the students understand sentence structure - they had to place the object on the picture they thought it would match until they had completed their sentence. A Little Bit About Me...

I worked as a peer tutor in the Writing Center at the University of Delaware for 2 years. I worked on all phases of the writing process, from brainstorming to revisions and final drafts. I have also tutored first year college students in the social sciences, in particular in history and government.
As far as writing, the best approach depends on the phases. I have always acted as an instructor and guide. I help a student develop and process ideas. In the brainstorming phase, I may help a student generate ideas by suggesting different areas and working on "thought clouds." We may also do a "free write" and then discuss the ideas that were generated. During the writing process I help guide students in the development of outlines and structure. Truthfully, there is no best strategy. The techniques depend on the students needs and learning styles.
