My comments on tutoring Social Studies : I excelled in this subject, never earning below an "A" average.

I have mentored various people since 2000, in all types of subjects, including math, science, social sciences, English, writing, literature, and other related subjects. My academic record is very strong, and I believe empowering those I work with every single time. The only pre-requisites are that you have to be willing to learn, and learn how to learn.
I like to use the Socratic method, mainly by asking questions and challenging assumptions. In addition, I like to engage those I teach, challenging them to think about what they previously have not considered. I believe in building on successes, and offering constructive criticism, where appropriate.

With my numerous experiences in education, I think I could be a great asset in helping students become more knowledgeable. I have worked as a Tutor, Assistant Teacher, and did a short placement as an Interim Teacher. I can easily adjust to changing environments that will best suit the student’s potential. I was a Tutor in an after school program, and was an Assistant Teacher in a Special Education classroom. I finished an Interim Teaching placement in a middle school A.P. English classroom.
I have a somewhat relaxed teaching style that does not compromise the distinction or respect between student and teacher. I like to accommodate to a child's personality and likes to help them to learn through distinct processes. When given the opportunity in the correct manner, children can learn most of what is put in front of them. I enjoy working with students to help them understand biology and how they participate in a biological world. I believe that the most important concept in teaching is engagement with the student. I strive to engage students in biology by exploring how biological concepts relate to the students life. Genetic diseases, growth and development, and the environment are biological topics that students already participate in; and I strive to teach by relating these topics to the student’s own life.
For the last two years I have taught college level biology labs. These have been introductory biology classes with course material beginning with cell biology and ending with ecology.
