Algebra I is one of my top subjects!

I graduated from high school in 2011 with special honors and as co-valedictorian. I am now attending the University of Mississippi where I am majoring in accountancy and minoring in business. My passion is writing, so naturally that is what I do best. Every year, I am contacted by numerous students from my high school and also my classmates at Ole Miss about proofreading their papers. I have also worked with helping students study for math classes, including but not limited to pre-algebra and algebra. My best subjects have always been English and math, but I am efficient in all high school level courses with the one exception of science, which has always been my weakness. I am very outgoing and thoroughly enjoy helping others learn. Please contact me via email at lpward@olemiss.edu and I would love to assist you in any way I can!

A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching and working with all children. My experience as a tutor has taught me how to help your child find academic success and my experience as a camp counselor and youth group leader has taught me how to relate to your child so that I can teach him or her how to learn in an enjoyable and effective manner. My experience has taught me to be patient, easy going, and considerate. I believe all children can meet their potential if they are given the appropriate surroundings and learning experiences. It is my goal to provide the necessary surroundings and experiences so that I can make a difference in your child's life.

A Little Bit About Me...

I worked at Learning Center in Tupelo, MS for a year as a proctor for government issued tests and a mathematics tutor. I have not received my Elementary Education Bachelor's Degree yet, however, I am in the process of receiving it. I will graduate Dec. 2011. I have taken 21 hours in Mathematics so far at the college level, and love working with children. I have had to tutor from first grade to college level. I know that I do not have my Bachelor's yet, but maybe I could at least be reviewed. Thank you for your time.
I believe however the child needs the information, is how I will teach. Children have many different styles of learning and you have to be flexible for them to become successful. I believe Mathematics can be fun and entertaining. I want the best for every child out there.

More About This Tutor...

I love teaching and working with children. I find that they are fun to talk to and that each one has a different learning process. I like tutoring better than teaching in a large group, as tutoring allows students to receive one on one attention. My goal is to provide the best education possible in my allotted time periods. I am a student myself, and will be for quite some time. I understand how to study, and how to relay information to others effectively. I am also very patient and understanding. I won't give up on someone, and can dedicate as much time as needed to them. I also have a flexible schedule, and can meet at almost any time needed.
My background is fairly well-rounded. In high school I went to the Governor's School for Science and Mathematics (GSSM) and tutored high school students in the community in math and reading, as well as ESL. Also, part of the GSSM curriculum ... read more

I realize that each student has his own unique style of learning and I adapt to that style. This insures that we are speaking the same language and also insures a better understanding of the subject matter. I am patient, easy going and considerate. I believe in constant feedback from my student to insure that he and I are on the same page. It is my goal to help him achieve the highest level of understanding possible within his capabilities.
I have not actually tutored students as a professional, but I have a talent for helping others. For example, in my last full time position as a Product Manager for an insurance company, I constantly received requests from fellow employees for assistance. The various requests I received included, but were not limited to, for help learning specific software applications and assistance in completing reports. I am a firm believer in relating material to real-world examples. I have found that many students are over-whelmed by material and do not see any application for the material, and thus they do not have the desire needed to absorb the material. I strive to make the material fun and break it down to small units so that it is easily absorbed.
I have spent 10 years in college academia resulting in a PhD as my terminal degree. Through my studies, I have acquired an in-depth knowledge of statistics, molecular biology, genetics, ecology, and bioinformatics to complete this degree. During my time in college, I also routinely volunteered as an undergraduate tutor in genetics, statistics, and basic biology. I also taught several labs in ecology.

I love teaching and working with children and peoples of all ages. I look for each individuals way of learning and apply an apporpriate method that will make the material understandable for the particular student. Sometimes, experimenting with a student and trying different techniques is the best method. Having a student use flash cards, reading aloud, or having the material read to the student are a few of the ways I use to convey material to be learned.I believe that it is a teachers job to identify learning blocks to help a student achieve to the best of his or her ability.
