A Little Bit About Me...

I have known that teaching is my calling since I was a Freshman in high school. Learning how everything works has always facinated me and sharing that has been equally rewarding. I believe that learning can be fun when it is relevant and interactive. Students have to be given a vested interest in the learning process, asked questions. An environment of trust in which student's inquiry is encouraged is the best way of learning. Moreover, I thing that teachers have to use complementing mediums for teaching (ie. Visual aids, sensory aids, stories,music, etc.).

My experience with teaching began in 2004 as a volunteer for William Saroyan Elementary School in Fresno, CA. I went on to graduate from CSUFresno with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology; Science is my passion and I believe our young students are in dire need of mentors who are dedicated to show them the world. As an Undergraduate, I volunteered as a librarian, and tutor. In 2009, I was employed by Americorps and was required to teach Science, Math, and English to 4th- 6th graders for eight weeks. In early 2010, I decided to further my career goal by pursuing a Master's in Education, for which I will begin my first class session in the summer 0f 2011.

As long as I could remember academics have come quite easily to me, from elementary school to current classes in college. Prior to this year I've only helped out my sister extensively as she has had problems understanding most teacher's methods. I understand nearly every aspect of math up to Algebra II along with most English, philosophy, and psychology classes and have helped people that I shared a class with in all mentioned areas.
Since I'm not a teacher and don't follow a schedule or have designated hours, I feel like I can be a lot more patient and easy going with students. I'd like to pride myself in how well I can take a complex idea and break it down into its sub-parts and explain it simplistically.
