My comments on tutoring Chess : Fun game that take strategy and planning.

I obtained a B.S. in Biology, with a concentration in aquatic science, from Wittenberg University in 2006. During my undergraduate studies, I tutored elementary students in math and science twice a week for two years. After college, I moved into the marine science profession. In August of 2008, I started teaching High School Biology I, Earth and Space Science, and Physical Science to students in Polk County. In addition, after school hours were spent with two students taking AP Biology classes. Both students achieved a 4 or higher on their placement exams. My tutored students reported an increase in their ability to record class notes, study, and take tests. My previous tutoring experiences have included subjects such as; elementary science, elementary math, Algebra (I & II), Geometry, Pre- Calculus, Anatomy, Physiology, Biology (both College and HS level), HS Chemistry, basic w ... read more

My comments on tutoring Chess : I have played as a hobby for many years.

I am very easy going and move at the pace of the subject!. What's most important is to ensure that the information has been relayed properly to the student...and said student has retained the information successfully.

More About This Tutor...

In my experience, I do not teach but simply assist people who need it. In college I helped my friends by explaining how to correct their writing, and offering advice. I am patient and willing to help as best as I can without being condescending towards students.
My experience is more hands-on and personal, I suppose. I love history and write constantly, in addition to having a great interest in photography and television. I majored in American Studies which focused on history and culture in the US, and minored in Creative Writing and Digital Arts. It is a dream of mine to help others learn, as I think college and knowledge is an incredible and necessary aspect that people need.

I have tutored people in math before. Their grades have ranged from 7th-10th grade. I have also helped friends in classes in college that have to do with statistics and other math classes. When I was in high school, the highest math class I had ever taken was Calculus BC. This was the highest math class that my school offered so I believe that I could people pass their math classes in high school and possibly College. I also scored a 730 on the Math section of the SAT.

Having been involved in academics most of my life, I am very familiar with the rigors and challenges facing most students today. I earned two bachelor degrees, BS in Biology and BS in Chemistry, which provided me with solid understanding in the field of science. Later, I continued medical school, graduating in 2009. I have been involved in many learning modalities, lecturing on various subjects which include biology, chemistry, anatomy, and mathematics. Also, I possess a strong proficiency in English grammar and phonics, having written many research papers. I am fortunate to have tutored many students over the years as a teaching assistant and substitute teacher, and I truly enjoy helping bridge gaps through education.
Every student is different, and in turn, learning is never constant, but rather, dynamic. My goal is to implement any teaching style or method that will faci ... read more

After graduating from Florida State University with a degree in Child Development, I purchased, managed, and ran a sports-education program for preschoolers. I created all lesson plans and designed individual teaching programs for 2-6 years olds. During that time I also received my certification in K-6, as well as Athletic Coaching. I was a substitute teacher at a prominent private school in Orlando, and have worked as a tutor with various children and families in the Orlando area. My tutoring/teaching experience is with children aged Pre K-6th grade, however, I have Language Arts/English/Grammar expertise due to my other work experiences.
My teaching philosophy is to be kind, considerate, and respectful to each student and caregiver I encounter. I aim to teach students with respect by listening to their needs, giving them time to express their feelings, and allowing positive ... read more

Although I have a well-rounded education, most of my knowledge and work experience is in mathematics (algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus plus the related fields of accounting, computers, and engineering). My college education at Purdue University was interrupted due to financial reasons, but I returned to Lake-Sumter Community College at night while working full time and earned an AA degree. I know how important education is! I believe I am a natural teacher when it comes to mathematics and related fields - I helped my fellow students in high school during study halls, tutored through the National Honor Society, was my son’s private tutor, and assist my co-workers with their accounting and computer skills.
I am fascinated with the concept that the more senses you utilize in teaching the better the child learns and retains what was taught. Some children respond to v ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have a dual approach to teaching languages, including both structured lessons on grammar and also practice learning idiomatic phrases. I think it's important to approach foreign language practically, so that people can learn basic communication skills without necessarily knowing all of the grammar. While I do think that grammar is important to adult language learning, it takes time and should not overshadow learning how to speak.
Throughout my college career I have taught piano lessons to all ages and tutored both Italian and German through the university tutoring program. I started studying Italian as an undergraduate student at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and have continued for the past 7 years here and in Italy. I have family in northern Italy with whom I have stayed, and we communicate exclusively in Italian. In addition to the teaching experien ... read more

After I graduated with a Master Degree in engineering in 1996, I worked as a mechanical engineer. I taught several technical courses and mathematics at the university and high school levels . My advanced mathematics knowledge gained in the university allowed me to pursue a second career in teaching and tutoring math and some technical courses.
My goal is to make children learn math step by step. The best way of teaching math to children is by encouraging them and making them realize the progress they are registering day by day. I remember when I was a child, my mother taught me in the same way. I think that educating is not only about what to teach but how to teach .

More About This Tutor...

Since neither of my parents graduated from college, I value education very much. They taught me to always strive for a high level of excellence in academics. I took it to heart and since have been an A student. I graduated from Olympia high school in 2005 with only one B and the rest A’s. While in high school I took any advanced placement classes related to math such as economics, accounting, calculus, physics and chemistry. As a result, I was asked by the adviser to the National Honors Society to tutor a teacher in math who was renewing her teaching certificate. At the University of Florida I studied business and economics, graduating with Cum Laude honors from in 2008 with a 3.98 GPA (again only B in my 3 years there).
I am a firm believer in teaching through discovery and in providing a constructivist approach to learning. As Clay P. Bedford quoted “You can teach a student a les ... read more
