In teaching, one must realize that students learn at different rates of speed. Consequently, you need to find a pace at which the student feels comfortable. As most of my experience and interest is in mathematics, I always want to see a student be able to solve problems on their own. It's a great feeling when a student overcomes a hurdle and they realize that they can get the right answer.
In my year of graduate school I accepted a position as a teaching assistant. It was my first opportunity to stand in front of a class. It was a very rewarding experience to be able to teach and also help people in subject areas of which you have great expertise and interest. More recently, I have had vast experience working with middle-school students and am currently doing in-home tutoring. For a period of five years, I offered tutoring services to students at the University of Chapel Hill, Duke University, and North Carolina State University. My ability comes from experience...I was not entirely prepared for college when I started, and had to work much harder to successfully complete my degrees.
