I am a retired engineer who has been substitute teaching for about 4 years including several long term positions. I have a BS in Mechanical Engineering and a MS in teaching with addition coursework in Electrical Engineering and Math. My tutoring experience started in Adirondack Community College’s math lab where I was helping a wide variety of students get through their math classes.
I try to adapt my teaching style to the student. I keep trying different methods until we find what works best. This is probably why many of my students have told me that I am great at explaining things so they understand it. Due to the student enrollment we actually had 1 certified teacher with 2 Teaching Assistants and one Teacher Aide. For the last 8 yrs while employed within the education field, I worked in this position.I was considered the teacher for 6-12 of the special needs students with both behavior and learning Disabilities. Writing lesson plans, grading and evaluating my students academics and ensuring they met NYS Education requirements for graduation with 5 of them getting a high school diploma the first year I taught as the teacher.

teaching is something that, to me, is unique when dealing with science education. When dealing with science there are many different ways of looking at the same problem. It is important for the student to keep his or her view of the problem and to work off of that view, rather than to change the view to the teachers. This makes it much more interesting for the teacher to adapt to the different ways of learning for each student and to build their education off of how they view science.

Having received both my undergraduate and graduate degrees from Cornell University and the University of California in the area of physical science (Atmospheric Science), I have attained a high level of knowledge in multiple areas ranging from Math and Science (particularly Physics) as well as Chemistry and Biology. In addition, while at Cornell University I earned a Minor in Communications focusing on both Written and Oral Communication. Regarding my abilities as a tutor, at Cornell I was employed as a Teaching Assistant for two upper level courses in the area of physical science.
