My comments on tutoring GED : I have taught students in alternative schools basic educational skills needed to either graduate from high school or earn a GED.

I have taught for many years in all levels of secondary school, alternative schools, and tutoring centers.I eat, sleep, and drink tutoring as I tutor every day during the school year and do lots of research to help my kids in whatever academic subject is causing them difficulty. I began my teaching career for the first five years as a high school English teacher and taught regular college prep English courses.The next five years I taught English at the middle school level.Next, I got married and resigned from teaching when our first child was born. I began working as a Water Safety Instructor when I was 16 and taught swimming to people age 3 to age 76. I worked as a Teacher's Assistant at West Virginia university and taught my own section of a one credit course required of all freshmen students while working on a BA in English with a concentration in Creative Writing. While working on my MA in English Literature with a Certificate in Folklore at George Mason university, I worked as a substitute teacher and then was hired as a full time middle school English teacher. I tend to employ a quiet but direct approach to learning. Q and A sessions begin each session. We review the homework and past experiences of the student. I encourage students to write down their concerns and mark the areas of confusion at the time these arise. That way the students don't forget to bring them to my attention.
