Normally I will watch as the student works and when they get stuck is when I would help them. If they do not understand the material I will go back and teach it again. Once they seem to get it I would give one or two practice problems just to be sure they understand completely. I have no issues with repeating things multiple times if it means furthering the child's knowledge.
I have only ever tutored my neighbors two daughters. They both benefitted from it and both of the girls grades went up. Most of the time I would help them with math ,but would also help in any subject they needed, and they would work on their homework as I watched and guided them in the correct direction. My comments on tutoring Elementary Science : I love science! It gives the most opportunity to enjoy learning.

I have taught full time in public and Catholic schools for 10 years. I taught part time as substitute, long term (months to full semesters or more), tutoring for 16years. While in college I had numerous teaching and tutoring experiences. I participated in the Multicultural Program in college and the American Indian Project. I student taught a full semester on the Hopi/Navajo reservation. I have taught all grades and adults but specialize in K-3 in which I have the most experience.
