A Little Bit About Me...

I was an outstanding high school athlete and was awarded an athletic scholarship to play basketball and more importantly get an education. I earned a bachelors degree in Biology and went back and earned a degree in Secondary Education. I have successfully taught and coached at all levels for 20 years. I gained the overall experiences of dealing with students in and out of the classroom. I earned a masters of Science degree and tutored math and science professionally at the collegiate level. I enjoy giving back all the lessons that I have learned along the way.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a female in a predominantly male field I’ve had to formulate a self-teaching method since most of my professors were male and seemed to think and teach in similar ways. My goal when tutoring is to help the student discover which learning methods work best for them whether it’s memorization techniques such as mind-mapping and mnemonic acronyms and/or study skills, for example, establishing a study routine.
In the years prior to high school I struggled with math but I had a few excellent teachers (my mother included) that lifted my confidence and taught me that I can achieve my goals through perseverance, encouragement and mentoring. I am an enthusiastic teacher who loves to share my passion for chemistry. My greatest achievement as a professor has been bringing awe and excitement to the mundane: I will never forget the student who told me that she will never look at a boiling pot of the water the same way. I am patient and considerate but demanding of hard work and respect from my students. Students learn different ways, and given the opportunity and time, a teacher should try to find the best learning environment for their students. In a classroom, this can be difficult. When tutoring one-on-one, a teacher can alter their instruction methods (visual, audio, hands-on) to optimize the student's experience.
