'Retired' Biologist and Experienced Math Tutor

I believe my job as a tutor is to find a way to help every student learn. I tell all my students if they don't understand the material, then I have to find another way to explain it. I believe anyone can learn math and science when the teaching is tailored to the students learning style.I will take the time to find the best learning style for your student and assign useful homework assignments. I have been teaching molecular biology to students and technicians in the laboratory for the past 12 years. In college I taught the human anatomy laboratory and a special research section to other undergraduates. I also tutored fellow students in College Algebra. My tutoring strategies: -throughout my experiences, I realized that each person is different and require different teaching methods depending on the individual's preference -I prefer to use study skills that will benefit the individual; I have a variety of strategies depending on the subject as well. some individuals learn well using flashcards, while others prefer repetitive writing for memorization - I have had a couple of ADHD clients that prefer learning games and activities because it helps them stay active, but focused at the same time

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a senior in the Education program at Appalachian State University. As an Elementary Education major, I have worked closely with children from many age levels. A Little Bit About Me...

I began 'teaching' as the head wakeboarding instructor at Coble Ski School in Lillington, NC, when I was a junior in high school. Shortly thereafter I took a position working at a beach resort in Pensacola, FL, where I spent an entire summer instructing surfing, kayaking and sailing. At Duke I tutored during each of my four years, either biweekly at a local Durham elementary school or at the Emily K Family Life Center.
