A Little Bit About Me...

Since April 2007, I have been a substitute teacher at both the Watkins Glen High School and Middle School. Frequent subjects include English, Psychology, and Physical Education. I belong to a writers group which meets at the local library every first and third monday. I belong to a chess club that meets at a coffee shop every Thursday. I also assistant coach varsity and college soccer during the spring and fall seasons.
I believe that education should present as much material to the student as possible, which includes using various textbooks, lecture, and inquiry. After that, it will be up to the student to assess and construct the information given in order to form his/her own opinion about the subject matter. True education and learning is ownership of the subject matter which comes through effort and discipline and a little bit of guidance.

One of the advantages of my background is the variety of people I have worked with. Regardless of different cultures, races, socioeconomic backgrounds and ages, I have the unique ability to connect with people in a language they understand. I utilize this ability to teach by analogy, as many of the things I teach and tutor others on involve complex subjects that the student usually has no direct experience in. I love teaching. Tutoring has been my favorite job so far, and although I was unable to continue working with Tutor.com due to time restrictions, I now am free to work with students and would like to tutor again.
