As a junior and senior in college, my research papers consistently received the highest grades ever awarded by a certain professor with a reputation for being the toughest on campus. I subsequently became a successful trade journalist and marketing communications writer with in excess of 150 feature articles to my name. In addition, the last eight years, during which I've been a homeschooling mom, have allowed me to hone my teaching style and become more aware of the barriers students typically have and effective methods of overcoming writing difficulties.
I enjoy helping students find the writer within them! For example, a few of my own children were reluctant writers, so I developed a daily routine of assigning them to write a full page about anything they desired. The creativity surfaced with a vengeance, let me tell you! Showing the most resistant student how to grab the bull b ... read more

As one who holds a Bachelor's and Master's in the arts, I believe in the power of exploratory learning. However, as one who has spent considerable time working in computers and networking, I value the attainment of hard knowledge. When the two are combined according to a student's particular learning modality(ies), then learning become meaningful and accelerated. In my professional career I was largely self-taught. My success depended upon my ability to learn new concepts based upon my current knowledge set, and to continue growing on that basis. I would ask nothing less from any student of mine. I am well-versed in the English language, a superb grantswriter, and a natural story teller...

I believe that Mathematics is the language of all sciences, and that children need a good foundation in this subject to succeed. I am passionate about achieving understanding of Mathematical topics in a child, since I believe many children dislike Math simply because they do not understand it. I greatly enjoy working with all types of children and look forward to contributing to bettering our future by working with our young people one on one. I am moving to the Newark, DE area at the end of August.
My diverse academic career has provided me with a greater knowledge and understanding of Mathematics than many of my peers. I have taken numerous courses in Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, and Exercise Science since I hold a B.S. in both Mathematics and Exercise Science. These classes have prepared me to teach a variety of complex topics.I have organized and taught many diffe ... read more

As I finished up my studies, started tutoring for lower level math majors. This included Calculus I,II,III, and statistics. As I moved on through classes, I began teaching more abstract classes in Mathematical theory. This experience has helped me able to explain a complex topic in simple terms.
I usually spend the first session finding a child's weaknesses in the subject. After this, I will prepare a list of problems for the child to work on under my supervision. As he works I will let him make his mistakes and then help him correct them. This, in my opinion, is the greatest way to learn math. Practice makes perfect.
