The Heart of Mathematics

25 years teaching various age groups in mathematics, fitness and martial arts Math subjects include algebra, statistics, calculus, trigonometry, logic, discrete math; I can tutor any math subject in K - Junior year of college. When students turn to tutoring, they often allow the tutor to do their thinking. This is counter productive to learning. A tutor is a coach, as well as, someome who shares their knowledge and skills. Learning math requires building neuro network connections in the brain. Anyone can learn math, at any age, but just like exercise, the mental muscle must be built with hard work. I have been tutoring peers since before high school in math and science and as I have gotten older I have continued tutoring peers, colleagues, college, high school and middle school students. In addition to tutoring, I have been teaching off and on throughout my entire college and graduate school careers. I started teaching general chemistry labs in 1998 while I was a student at Mercer University and continued teaching until I graduated in 2001. While at Mercer, I was also involved with the Upward Bound program where I taught Physics and Chemistry to inner city high school students during the summer on Mercer's campus. Additionally, I was involved with an outreach program where we did science demonstrations in the local elementary schools. A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching is so rewarding, there's nothing better than helping someone understand something they have struggled with in the past. I am a very patient person who loves to work with people. I also enjoy helping people overcome challenges. For example: when I worked at the accounting office my specialty was dealing with clients who had or have issues with the IRS. It was my favorite part of the job, especially when the issue was resolved! My teaching style is different for different people, everyone learns differently. The trick is to help people figure out the best way for them to catch on and retain the information. After finishing my masters I hope to teach at the high school or college level.
