I am a recent college graduate who is very focused and motivated. I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and graduated early. While being in school I was enrolled full time taking five classes a semester, along with working full time. I have great time management skills, and I am a great teacher. With my studies I have become a better writer with all the research paper I did for psychological experiments, along with having a better understanding with math and statistics. I was a tutor working at Newtown Youth Services for four years with Middle School aged children in an after school program. I really enjoyed the experience, and believe that I have gained more experience sense then which would benefit many people that I would work with. I am a great listener, and understand that different people have different learning styles and abilities. Overall I feel I would be a great tutor. ... read more

Coming from a poor background I was very much determined to change my family economic situation. I work hard and smart to make this happen and in the process I have acquired training and learning skills that will empower students from every background. In 1998 I founded a non-profit organization GHAPE and I have been providing varied trainings to the needy to explore their potentials. In 2008 I was an adjunct professor at the University of Bridgeport. I will again be teaching one course to undergraduate in the Fall of 2010.

I hold that students can reach their potential if carefully guided. I work each day striving to pull the best out of each student.

I believe that a good education paves the path for successful careers. Achieving a level of excellence in school opened up opportunities for me when I first graduated from college in the Accounting program. My dream was to work in the investment banking industry. Based on my academic achievement, I received a job offer to work in a prestigious Wall Street firm. After spending over a decade in this industry, I wanted to utilize my business knowledge to teach others. I had tutored my son for years and realized the difference that my efforts had made on his grades. I pursued a graduate degree in Education followed by my teaching certification. I enjoy the rewards derived from working with young people.

My teaching style is a combination of serious, in-depth theory and practical examples to demonstrate such theories, all with a hint of humor, followed by significant practice of the newly learned skills. I've been "teaching" people all of my business career. I always start with the underlying theory and immediately segue into a practical example of how the principles work. I think students want to learn, but need the information presented in a way that makes learning interesting, not boring. I have that ability. I'm able to integrate relevant practical examples because I have a very broad range of experience, having been an entrepreneur and turnaround management consultant for over 40 years.

I like to first of all evaluate my student(s) and determine what approach will give them the greatest chance for success. When it comes to difficult material I break it down into small modules so that it is not too over whelming for the student. There are very many learning styles which need to be recognized, and I alter my approach to best serve the learning style of the student.

As a graduate of a liberal arts college and a graduate program of a Jesuit university, I am a strong supporter of the process of learning and how to optimize that proces for each individual. I have earned one bachelor degree, a BA in Business Policy, a major I petitioned and was granted pernmission to design by officials at Hartwick College. After Hartwick and prior to entering Georgetown, I worked for an administrative division of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in several capacities, each of which required writing statements about complex policies and outstanding issues, many of which statements were distributed to to the Governor's and Speaker's offices, as well as published in The Boston Globe and Boston Herald. First, I believe a successful teacher allows the student to emerge in their individual creativity while grooming the student to play a significant role in a team environment. Second, a teacher must allow for mistakes to be made during the learning process as they are often quite instructive. Third, the most important thing about learning is not just in memorizing factual data for an exam, but in understanding how to apply knowledge to everyday situations. Finally, a good teacher knows where to lovingly apply discipline because a good balance of encouragement and discipline results in mutual respect between teacher and student and teaches the student proper boundaries.

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy teaching students of all ages, especially in math and science. I believe that anyone can become successful in any subject as long as they put in the time and effort. I help students learn by walking them through the problem solving process step by step so that they can come to the correct answer in their own mind. Once they do that, the knowledge is theirs forever.
I am a recent graduate from the University of New Haven with a double major in Forensic Science and Chemistry. During the past year I was a Laboratory Assistant at UNH where I had the opportunity to teach the theory and experimental procedures to students in laboratory courses as well as assist them in data analysis and troubleshooting.

I believe that it is most important to create a learning environment that allows a student to feel successful every step of the way. Many years ago, as a Juvenile Probation Officer I discovered that there are three key ingredients to working with young people: trust, sensitivity and encouragement. Beyond the goal of mastering course materials, I would strive to instill in the student that I tutor, that he or she is worthy and capable. It’s very much a balancing act: A student should know that I am approachable, friendly and interested, but at the same time establishing and maintaining the proper boundaries between student and teacher.
My undergraduate degree in English and a Juris Doctor degree was a foundation for my career in writing, editing and research in the financial communications field. I have learned about the importance of clarity, detail and accuracy in writing. As an ... read more
