Northland Learning Solutions specializes in one-on-one dyslexia tutoring, in a warm, friendly atmosphere. Additionally, we have discovered that our program is beneficial to anyone requiring assistance in reading and spelling. Northland Learning Solutions offers professional tutoring services to the surrounding communities. Our Orton-Gillingham based tutoring system utilizes the Barton Reading and Spelling System. Our trained tutors work personally with students for one hour, 2 to 3 times a week. We do not tutor in a group setting.
I worked for a dyslexia tutoring center, Road to Learning, located in the Chicago area that would tutor between 80 to 100 students per week. If for example we are doing a unit on weather then my students may role play a weather man. Gather vocabulary from a newspaper. Count change as if they were really buying something. Read and write from a reporters perspective, or even travel to a museum with a reoprt and description of things they have seen using adjective and adverbs for color and detail. I also believe reading should be taught at the appropriate reading level for comprehensions sake. If a reader is below the 98% error level, they will not succeed.
