I Want You to Believe in You!

I like to use the Socratic method, mainly by asking questions and challenging assumptions. In addition, I like to engage those I teach, challenging them to think about what they previously have not considered. I believe in building on successes, and offering constructive criticism, where appropriate.
I have mentored various people since 2000, in all types of subjects, including math, science, social sciences, English, writing, literature, and other related subjects. My academic record is very strong, and I believe empowering those I work with every single time. The only pre-requisites are that you have to be willing to learn, and learn how to learn.

I have a somewhat relaxed teaching style that does not compromise the distinction or respect between student and teacher. This teaching style results in a classroom atmosphere where students feel comfortable responding to my questions and asking for further clarification about complex topics. Many students have told me that my teaching style is refreshing and they feel comfortable in class.
With my numerous experiences in education, I think I could be a great asset in helping students become more knowledgeable. I have worked as a Tutor, Assistant Teacher, and did a short placement as an Interim Teacher. I can easily adjust to changing environments that will best suit the student’s potential. Each person learns at an individual pace. I use the Gardner system of multiple intelligences to facilitate individual learning style. I do not believe something is impossible to learn, or unteachable. Patience is a moral and ethic rule with my personal professional style.
I have worked with different levels of mental health and emotional maturity for several years. I have spent much of my spare time working within the community at youth centers, soup kitchens and veteran administration homes. I feel that working with many different types and levels of human functioning has enabled me to be more able to adjust my teaching and assisting styles to better serve my community.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have experienced various types of teaching styles while in school. I have learned a long the way every student is different and learns in a different way. In high school and all even through college math had always been my hardest subject. My second year in college I had a math professor that had a different approach to teaching math and for the first time in my life I finally understood math! Finding the right teaching approach is the key to success!
I hold a bachelor degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. I majored in Elementary Education for two years before I switched majors. I ask a lot of questions to get the students thinking. I believe in teaching young people and the adults I have worked with to think critically fist. Then I work with them on being able to articulate and write their ideas down...subject matter follows naturally if they have the confidence and can just think for themselves not just spit back facts and what others want to hear. I would travel and relocate for a job.
I have worn many hats and done many things that all apply to the classroom and teaching young people. I believe that education is the key to life and living. But a person has to believe they can do it first and I believe everyone can learn and should be given the opportunity
