A Little Bit About Me...

My experience tutoring began during my high school years, where I would tutor Spanish and English to my peers, especially focusing on written and oral language skills as well as literary analysis. While earning my undergraduate degree from Boston College, I worked as a tutor and mentor at a local elementary school. There, I assisted with math, phonics, writing, and science coursework, as well as any other assignments given to the students. Additionally, I volunteered at a local union, where I taught English as a second language to adults in a one on one setting. I hold a B.S. in Environmental Geoscience, and possess a strong knowledge in the earth sciences and environmental issues.

As a student throughout high school and college I have enjoyed learning and often joke with my friends that I would go to school forever if I could. I have earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Chemistry at a very academic and research oriented school. I am currently continuing my education through an online Master's of Science in Forensic Toxicology program with the University of Florida. I'm passionate about what I do because I've been through classes in subject matter that I struggled in or was disinterested in and I want to be able to help others feel more comfortable in math where they might be weak or unsure. I also realize that sometimes the issue is motivational not a matter of comprehension. Having also dealt with feeling a lack of motivation I desire to light a spark in those who I help to reach for their best.
My tutoring experiences have been all throughout my life helping friends and family better understand mathematics. I've tutored for pay just once, one night a week for one year. This was while I was a student at Hampden-Sydney College; I worked through the College tutoring Calculus. My favorite part about teaching is the moment that something "clicks" within a child's mind. I am a problem solver naturally so I try to lead children down a path of discovery instead of just teaching the answer. I believe this helps children gain an understanding of how things work or why they are a certain way so that they are able to apply these same processes to other problems.
I have earned two bachelor degrees, BS in Business Administration with a concentration in International Business and BA in Spanish. I have 10 years of professional experience involving customer service, Spanish translation, tutoring, and training. A Little Bit About Me...

I have recently graduated from UNCW with a BS degree in chemistry. I have taken mainly math and science classes for the past three years. I have participated in many study groups and helped many other students who were in math and science classes by tutoring them.
I like to work through each type of problem step by step creating a blue print of what the student should be doing to solve each type of problem. I then repeat this with another problem of the same type. I like to go through every type of problem like this while they write the steps of how to do the problem down and then try to solve each problem step by step. I like to emphasize that they write neatly so they can see clearly what they are doing and what they have done so they can quickly go back through the problem and check for mistakes.
