A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that all children have the potential to learn and am a strong advocate of customized teaching. I am so drawn to the mathematics and sciences because I learn from working through problems and finding methods to solve them. When I tutor I tend to emphasize to the student to find a study method that works for them and adapt it to whatever they need to learn. I try to suggest to the student options for solving a problem and letting them discover the way they understand the best.
As a student throughout high school and college I have enjoyed learning and often joke with my friends that I would go to school forever if I could. I have earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Chemistry at a very academic and research oriented school. Teaching comes easy to me because I was taught very well. In high school I was the president of the FTA club where we would go to local elementary and middle schools to educate children of all educational capacity and mental handicaps. Patience is a valuable skill I had to develop early on, as well as many others, in working with children. My teaching method is to first take the teaching subject(s) and break them down into correlating groups. Then I would see how I would explain that to someone who knows absolutely nothing about the subject. Then explain the material in a slow and efficient manner and repeat if necessary. I love working with children, young adults, and adults.

I have recently graduated from UNCW with a BS degree in chemistry. I have taken mainly math and science classes for the past three years. I have participated in many study groups and helped many other students who were in math and science classes by tutoring them.
I like to work through each type of problem step by step creating a blue print of what the student should be doing to solve each type of problem. I then repeat this with another problem of the same type. I like to go through every type of problem like this while they write the steps of how to do the problem down and then try to solve each problem step by step. I like to emphasize that they write neatly so they can see clearly what they are doing and what they have done so they can quickly go back through the problem and check for mistakes.
