A Little Bit About Me...

I am, as of this past May, a high school graduate. I was co-president of the National Honors Society and a member of the Spanish National Honor Society at Rochester High School. I graduated third in my class, and I received awards for Physics, Vocal Music, Leadership, and Drama. I received A's in all of the subjects that I am willing to teach and I am comfortable in my knowledge of them. This fall, I will be attending Illinois State University as a Physics and Engineering major.
I have never officially taught, but I have been told by my peers that they believe I would have some skill at it. Mostly, my teaching style would involve working through problems or homework step by step with a student at first, and then once they gain more confidence, allowing them to do more work on their own. Like learning to ride a bike, I believe that almost anything can be taught this way. I would hop ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am Naga Durga from Hyderabad city which is a cosmopolitan city(amalgam of all religions, languages, people) in India(unity in diversity).Since childhood i always wanted to set myself aside from the crowd in all the activities. So after my graduation I worked for social organizations like "Save the children" and "Helpage India".I gave my precious time and voluteer service for these NGOs as i believed that today's children are tomorrow's future generation helping in building the nation and if not guided they may turn into thiefs(behind bars) or anti-social elements with destructive minds. And Hyderabad being a metro city is very prone to child trafficking and child labour. And I am glad that I got an opportunity to serve those abandoned old parents who have put there complete heart and soul in building their children's career. The satisfaction which I got from this service made me feel uni ... read more

My comments on tutoring Physics : Received an A in a double-paced college Physics course at Richland Community College.

I am a natural teacher - it's what I do when I'm not getting paid. I just like to share knowledge of what, why, when, where, and how. I like the process of learning, and it is a privilege to get to witness, or even positively influence, that process in someone else. I have been paid for my teaching skills for the past 9 years, in various settings, including piano instruction, guitar instruction, tutoring at the Community College in Chemistry, Biology, and Microbiology, as well as assist teaching for the Decatur Public School District. I enjoy working in the educational environment.
I am a visceral teacher. I like to use illustrations whenever possible, videos, photographs, drawings... I like making connections to things that may seem unrelated - I think this strengthens neuro-pathways and thought processes. I also think that laughter stimulates learning, so I like students to ... read more

If anyone is looking for a tutor, I would be willing to help. I'm a senior in college studying math and physics. I got a 35 on the math portion of my ACT. I have multiple undergraduate research experiences in mathematics. Both of those research projects have been presented at math conferences. One has been published and the other publication is in progress. I have gotten an A every Calculus, Discrete Mathematics, and Logic course I have taken in college. In high school I was a 4 year veteran in scholastic bowl. I also did math team for 4 years and qualified for state three times. I was a member of Worldwide Youth of Science and Engineering (WYSE) team for three years which included a trip to the state tournament. I can tutor on the college level for math and I can tutor on the high school level for computer science, chemistry and history. I try to make my rates very affordable. Let me ... read more

I worked for 14 years as a Project Engineer for the Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety before deciding to start a new career as a teacher of high school physics. I attended the Transition to Teaching program at Calument College in Whiting Indiana and completed my Student Teaching at Munster High School in Indiana in the fall of 2008. In the spring of 2009 I passed my Content Area exam and in June 2009 received a Teaching License from the state of Indiana.
I believe that students should be respected and challenged beyond the usual material they are expected to learn in order to demonstrate proficiency in their coursework. I believe that students learn best by first having their imaginations stimulated and then given concrete examples of the concepts with which they have been presented. Physics is a subject where both ideas and concepts can be discussed in the classroom and ca ... read more

As a student-athlete at Illinois State University, I learned many invaluable skills. I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Physics as well as minors in both Mathematics and Exercise Science. Earning this degree as well as two minors has allowed me to gain a large amount of knowledge in both science and math. Being a student-athlete also taught me great leadership, hard work, teaching and time management skills. In my final year at Illinois State University, I taught a physics lab course. I have also spent many years coaching which has enabled me to teach concepts in a variety of ways in order to reach many different types of learners.
I have really enjoyed teaching through coaching. Throughout my coaching career, I have worked with all different types of athletes who each learn things a little bit differently. Because of this, I have been able to practice presenting i ... read more

I believe that each and every student has an ability to learn and it is necessary to find a method of teaching conducive to the individual. For example, I was a student that learned though hands on activities and writing. Having a teacher stand and lecture never appealed to me. Other children, and adults, may be more apt to retain through reading or repetition. It is important to identify a student’s strengths and weaknesses in order for them to get the most out of their academic careers. I am a very patient person and have a wide range of teaching strategies.
I have had practical experience working as a microbiology level I technician for a major pharmaceutical company. My primary duties included many of the bench chemistry and laboratory biology techniques from college. I have completed one year of post bachelor's education at Illinois State University and am currently one ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I am a recent college graduate with a Bachelors of Science degree in both Physics and Applied Mathematics. I have been tutoring and teaching students for over two years in mathematics and science. This experience includes being a leading mathematics and sole physics tutor at my university, working as a science camp counselor, and substituting at a local branch of a nationwide learning center. I have worked with students from the age of 7 to adult.
I love sharing my passion for mathematics and science with students of all ages. My goal for every student is to understand the concept behind the problem, not just how to solve it. I am patient and try to connect the concepts to student’s everyday life and/or previous knowledge to facilitate understanding. I work hard to figure out how my students learn best and use that knowledge to help them achieve success.

In college, I was a peer tutor in Math, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry. I have sub-taught for CUSD 5, and CUSD 87, for 3 years. I have a Illinois Type 09 Certification, which is currently valid in McLean County. I have good grammar skills, and very good mathematical skills. I completed 2 semesters of Organic chemistry, 3 quarters of College Algebra, and 2 quarters of College Calculus (single variable only) I have had a lot of experience working with autistic students, behavior disorder students, and LD students, also.
My teaching style is one which engages the student actively in the learning process. I have used the "popcorn" technique in a classroom, where I call out "popcorn", then call on someone at random. This ensures that each student in the class is following, or else they lose their turn to read. If I'm working w/ a student w/ poor reading skills, I allow them to r ... read more
