Being a current student myself, I can appreciate the hardships and struggles of education. I feel that you must always level with your students, no matter what the age. The students are the ones who must lead the class. However, we as educators have a duty to guide and to nourish this idea. We must be leaders who encourage a positive and productive learning environment, while also maintaining an enjoyable experience. I believe in a split between communicative and explicit teaching. Students are given input through examples and other meaningful activities. They then are encouraged to attempt their own output through group work, homework, or discussion. While I have not tutored academically in the past, I have taught my community's equivalent of the DARE program to fourth grade classes for two years and have also taught art lessons to children of all ages.
I feel very strongly that every child has the ability to learn when they are given the right encouragement. While working on my Japanese minor I quickly discovered that finding a method that works for an individual student is the most important part of studying productively. A Little Bit About Me...

I am currently a graduating senior at Wilberforce University. When that day comes, I will have a BS in Biology. This degree has allowed me to gain hands on experience within different fields of study along with enhancing my kowledge of the biological sciences and all that it embodies. Also with Spanish, I have not had the experience of teaching but I have been learning the Spanish language for the last ten years (since the sixth grade). I can read as well as write the language and hold a descent conversation. I have previously worked as a tutor/mentor in this field of study for high school graduates. This particular job was to help fulfill a semester worth of requirements in 8 weeks.
