Journalism is one of my top subjects! I am graduating with my Master's in Journalism this May.

I received my Bachelor's Degree in Writing in 2008 and am graduating this May (2012) with a Master's Degree in Journalism. I worked as a English, Writing, and Grammar Tutor for two years at both my college and graduate school. I have had experience tutoring and writing a variety of styles and genres including creative writing, non-fiction, editorials, poetry, blogs, press releases, and feature articles.
Instead of telling the student the correct answer, I prefer to help them understand why the answer is correct. With writing, there can be better ways to word a sentence or rearrange a paragraph and I try to help them figure this out on their own. That way, the next time they run into a similar issue, they remember how they improved their writing the previous time.

I believe children learn by experiences and examples. Making it relevant and interesting makes them to want to learn. They begin to understand the purpose for learning the material. Children have different learning styles and every child doesn't learn at the same rate. Teachers must realize this when planning lessons. Students need to know that to have the basics such as a home, a car and food for their family, they need an education. Kids don't think about the future and how their decisions will determine the rest of their lives. By helping them to set goals for themselves, they will strive to do their best and begin to realize that they can learn.

I love to learn, and love passing that on to others. I am a patient personality, and I may present a problem to a student to evaluate where they are. From there, we can go either backwards or to more advanced work. Education is very important for myself and for my children, and I like to instill that learning takes you further in life than where someone may have not even dreamed. I am amazed at seeing cashiers who can't make simple change, or someone who can't calculate a small percentage in their head, such as 10% of a number. As a Communication major at College of Charleston, the majority of my undergraduate assessment was research papers, essays, and writing exams. My grammar and writing skills have been far above average throughout my academic career. During the last three years since graduation, I have spent fifteen months teaching English as a Second Language at Chinese secondary schools.
