Tutor: Math, Physics, and Chemistry.

When I was studying engineering at University of Michigan, I took a job as a tutor at Washtenaw Community College. This was the most rewarding job I ever had. Since about the year 2000, I have been working as a freelance tutor in the subjects of math, chemistry and physics. I also tutor students in engineering courses. I generally work with college students or upper-class high school students. Normally I work in the Brighton/Howell Michigan area. I meet most students at a public library or coffee shop. My average rate is $50 per hour. This can be negotiated, however. I like to take the students ability to pay into consideration and will charge less per hour if advanced payment can be arranged.
I like to work one on one with students in a neutral location. Small groups are not out of the question however.

I enjoy teaching students who have some motivation to learn, and care about their subject matter. I like to make learning fun, because I feel so many kids today take courses to build a resume, rather than because they want to take them. I also feel like there is great deal that can be learned from the student as well. I wanted to excite others as Chemistry had excited me. I teach the material and why it is so exciting. My style adapts to that specific student’s strengths, weaknesses and interests. I always try and connect their interests to the material, so it is more than just words and starts to be interesting. Chemistry is scary to many people, because they try to memorize, it’s too intricate remember everything. I teach the student to understand why and how substances react or behave. Knowledge of basics, allows the student to solve problems as they are given instead of memorizing specific answers.
