A Little Bit About Me...

After finishing my Bachelor of Arts in English, I decided to teach English as a Second Language in China. I enjoyed my time there but returned home after a year to be closer to my family. The bulk of my classroom experience comes from teaching high school English in Charlotte, North Carolina. I spent five years teaching at Dore Academy, and I learned a great deal about teaching and tutoring students with a wide range of abilities. I then decided to once again teach abroad. My teaching style revolves around helping the student rationalize the information. As a high school student, I was very active in extracurricular activities. I participated in the rotary club, volunteering at local soup kitchens. I was also a member of the Newspaper, Quiz Bowl, Robotics Team, soccer and baseball throughout my high school career. Through volunteering at the Boys and Girls club, I was turned out to tutoring students in Algebra and Trigonometry. I spent my Junior and Senior year tutoring students in these areas of mathematics.

I like working with children of all ages. I believe that children of all ages and cultural backgrounds can learn if given a proper chance. I even managed to teach children in South Korea, when I didn't speak Korean at all and my students had limited English skills. I taught them through games and use of our workbooks and student books. I believe in making learning a fun experience with lots of games and an easy going manner. If the kid is bored or unhappy, it is going to make it much harder for the child to learn.
