Throughout the past 25 years, I have developed a deep love for learning and helping others. I can usually be found volunteering for local services, outdoors or looking into a new course at the nearby college, etc. I recently completed my first full year of teaching in Houston, TX. I taught 6th grade Social Studies and Language Arts in an inner city situation. I believe that I learned just as much as the children or more. My curriculum was on delivery, diversity and determination. During the last 3 years or so, I have tutored reading and math from grades 1st-6th and recently a small ESL 5th grade group. In addition, I tutored foreign languages in high school.

I don't have a style. When I left high school in rural Iowa I was told I was retarded and would never even be able to write a check. At age 38 when struggling through Iowa State my chem teacher sent me to be tested for learning disabilities and I had multiple learning disabilities but an above average IQ. I don't teach I allow the student to learn in an environment where they are listened to, talked with(not to) and treated like they have value and worth. I treat them the opposite way I was treated. And when they do well we cheer together!
