Teaching and School Counseling Services In One Place!

I have been a teacher for the last fifteen years. I teach social studies, but my specialization is teaching argumentative (college level) writing.I have done plenty of SAT prep and tutoring for students at the high school and college level. I am also a school counselor and can offer a vast array of services including FASFA, Naviance/Common Application and college/career counseling.
My style of education is to teach by modeling. Students need to see things in a step-by-step format with instructions, followed by an immediate example. I also provide sample argumentative essays for students who learn by seeing a complete model. My counseling style is to work with students, first by building a rapport and then using that as the foundation to get a feel for their college/career interests. I then look at their grades to help them build a custom transitional plan into early adulthood.

Experienced tutor available

My engaging style is evident at the start of each tutoring session. I show my students by personal example how to persevere and succeed in academics and in life. For the past 15 years, I have been a full-time tutor for students in grades 1-12. I am a graduate of Wesleyan University with an emphasis in physical and cultural anthropology and an ongoing fascination with the study of prehistoric human societies. Presently, I use my diverse experience as a tutor, copy editor and radio news broadcaster to make each tutoring session truly memorable for my students. My students quickly see how much I care for their progress and success. I consider tutoring to be much more than just a profession, but a way to provide others with needed assistance. It is this goal, when met, which provides me with my greatest satisfaction as an educator.

More About This Tutor...

My teaching style is primarily geared toward errorless teaching, and giving the student many opportunities to respond. It is very important that the student practice sufficiently without making errors, supported by prompts that are faded as material is learned. I meet the learner at his current level, and then progress in small increments, testing frequently for mastery. In this way, it becomes very apparent what skills need the most attention, and frustration is avoided. I love helping students see that they can be successful learners. I strive to provide an atmosphere that is positive, interesting, and fun.
In college, I double-majored in math and economics, and my SAT scores were 700 math/ 700 verbal. My GRE verbal score was 760. I have eight years of professional experience working with regular education and special educational students from preschool through the upper ele ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have taught music and guitar since I was 20 years old. I continued to teach guitar throughout college where I double majored in Political Science and Theology and minored in philosophy. My grammatical skills are excellent as I currently write for two different publications on the internet. I have been tutoring for the past year in Math and Reading in all levels from 6th grade math to SAT math. I also tutor GRE math. Math and reading are certainly my strong points now as I have been working in these subjects for this past year. I am looking to expand my students though and your institution caught my eye.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a recent college graduate, it is my strong belief that education can open doors to opportunities. Through my undergraduate and graduate career, I have tutored and mentored my peers through science college courses, including biology, genetics, and chemistry. During the summer months, I instructed courses (Immunology and Anatomy/Physiology) for high school students as part of a summer boarding program. Although my formal training has been in the sciences, I am looking for the opportunity to tutor in math, which was my strong point in high school and college through AP and Honors courses.
I truly believe a proper education can open doors, but the teacher-student relationship is the key to that success. Every student has the potential to achieve greatness, and as a tutor, I strive to find the best teaching technique for an individual. Some students learn from activity-based instruct ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

After over decade of classroom teaching and preceding experiences teaching as a manager, I have developed a style that would be considered eclectic, at once rooted in the cognitive behavioral and infused with existentialist expectations. The key element is to reach each unique individual, assessing strengths and weaknesses, and facilitate an atmosphere in which students can find personal success while engaging the group dynamic. I spend a great deal of time examining just what it is I am doing as an educator, how I feel about outcomes and how I can adjust curriculum, practices, and in my case, administrative functioning to better serve my charges. Existing educational practices in no small way determine the modes and methods one uses to engage learners in and out of the classroom. However, teaching style and empathetic relationships to a great extent determine how students are engag ... read more

It is important to help the student gain confidence with the subject and to build his self-esteem. As the student increases his knowledge and problem-solving abilities his confidence and curiosity will also increase. Learning will become a lifetime pursuit.
I have four semesters of calculus, numerous chemistry, physics, engineering, computer science, statistics, finance, accounting, marketing, management, and liberal arts courses. I also have a temporary CT teaching certificate for secondary education math.
