A Little Bit About Me...

Although my experience as a teacher appears brief, I feel I have the knowledge in my subject to help students learn and enjoy science. I taught for one year as a High school Biology teacher at Bonner Springs Ks. I also taught as a Title 1 Teacher at Edwardsville Elementary in Kansas City. My wife and I moved here the summer of '10 for her OBGYN residency. I am currently working as a Software Analyst for MSB here in Wauwatosa WI.

If I had to put a label on my teaching style, I would call it interactive. I believe children learn best if they are actively involved in the learning process. Using materials and techniques that appeal to all of your child's senses is not only a more enjoyable way to teach, but a more effective way to learn. While it is important to have stated goals and levels of achievement, feedback from your child is truly important to me.
For over 15 years I've taught children from kindergarten through eighth grade in various settings. The majority of years I worked with first through fourth graders so I have accumulated experience in reading, math and language arts. I find that demonstration though example is the first step to understanding. This allows for an initial exposure to the material and plants seeds of knowledge. Adjuvant to demonstration, motivation and enthusiasm to learn the material must be taught. All the homework in the world cannot replace this! Regrettably, students often struggle due to poor instruction or vague textbooks which erode a student’s motivation. Fortunately this can be overcome with a little outside assistance. My long term goal of teaching is to foster a mature understanding of the subject matter. To master a subject it must be learned from multiple angles before the bigger picture is illuminated.
