Teaching is a passion of mine. I enjoy teaching students of all ages. I believe that kindness, patience, and understanding are necessary characteristics when teaching students. With the proper motivation and guidance, all students possess the ability to learn. I teach my students with humor and respect. As an undergraduate student I worked at a general science and math tutor as well as a class specific calculus I tutor. I was teaching assistant for calculus I for two semesters and ran a study table for the athletic department for student with a GPA less than 2.5. As a graduate student I have taught both majors and non-majors biochemistry lab as well as general chemistry lab and discussion. I have had the opportunity to lecture, write quizzes, tests, and homework for college level courses as well as grade all course material.
Teaching is a very important part of learning; it is an ongoing process that is active and not static. My style of teaching is less conventional than most at a large university due to my liberal arts undergraduate education. With a BA in English and Minor in Mass Communications, I pursued careers utilizing my writing, editing, and communication talents. Five years in the professional world helped me realize my passion lies in teaching English composition. Thus, I decided to attend graduate school for an MA in English in order to fulfill my passion. During this time, I gained intensive training centered around composition theories and methods, linguistics, written assessments, and rhetoric.
