A Little Bit About Me...

I am currently a medical student at the University of Minnesota Medical School Duluth. Before I started medical school I worked as a tutor for six years with two teenage boys with autism. Under the six years of my tutoring, both of these "disabled" kids were completely mainstreamed and even taking some AP and challenge classes. I believe that any kid can learn if they are taught in a way that is fun and structured. I tutored these kids in Math, Science, Social Studies and English. I also spent a semester as a Teaching Assistant in an upper level Philosophy course during my undergrad. Most of my TA tutoring was helping college students write papers.

With a BA in English and Minor in Mass Communications, I pursued careers utilizing my writing, editing, and communication talents. Five years in the professional world helped me realize my passion lies in teaching English composition. Thus, I decided to attend graduate school for an MA in English in order to fulfill my passion. During this time, I gained intensive training centered around composition theories and methods, linguistics, written assessments, and rhetoric. In addition to attending full-time graduate school, I was also a graduate teaching assistant responsible for developing and presenting curricula aimed at helping students discern different situations, aims and purposes in writing.
