Recent Graduate Looking To Help

For most students, essays are their number one issue. After they have told me their concerns, I like to read over the paper myself and any correct grammar mistakes I find along the way. I also sometimes write in comments in the margin to refer back to. If I have an issue or am confused about a certain session, I stop and ask the student. I also often read the sentence(s) aloud so the student can hear the what is wrong. If he or she still does not see an issue, I explain my concerns and we work together until we are both happy. After I’m done reading, I express any more concerns I have and once again work with the student until we are both happy. I also help with work cited pages. As a Bowling Green State University student who has studied Communication Disorders I have come across many experiences with children. Communication Disorders not only includes speech, but language as well. I have gained knowledge about how children read and write and why some children may have problems with this. During my last semester of college I observed 25 hours of speech and language therpay which involved watching both adults and children. This year I will be graduating with a 3.0 in my major. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe in trying to help kids learn the big picture. Kids are highly intelligent and are capable of handling large amounts of information. This does not mean that we teach the same amount of accounting information to 5th grades as we do 11th grades. Just that we can give them a general outline for the 5th grades and a more detailed version for the 11th grades. I would say that it is a little more toward laid back. Being over 6" tall, stocky, pushing hard, being an ogre, hard-nosed, that isn't going to work for me. People have a tendency to be a bit intimidated and fearful because of my size. I will use it to my advantage if it is necessary, or becomes necessary, but I've found being a little more quiet, reserved and coaxing the student to initiate the discussion is a little better. Ask leading questions, adjust and proceed, based on their response.
I have received degrees in Int'l Business from Lourdes College, as well an Associates Degree in Accounting from Owens Community College.
