When I first started college, I had no idea what to major in. I started taking creative writing and literature classes though, and found my niche in English. I enjoy writing, reading, proofreading, checking grammar and punctuation, and find myself reviewing billboards and magazines for errors. I've been able to put these skills to actual use as an instructor, tutor, and advisor for college students. I have taught Business Writing, Business Communication, and Keyboarding classes. I have also had a great deal of experience with public speaking and have played piano for more than 20 years. In the end though, it's a great joy to see a student "get it" and to help them realize their full potential.

My teaching philosophy is simple; I believe in providing a safe and positive atmosphere for students to learn. In creating this positive atmosphere I motivate my students by showing them that they can indeed, be successful. I help them move toward success by teaching content, but also building trust with the students. I am approachable and have a positive attitude; I take the time to learn each student’s interests which helps me relate to them. After receiving my BA and MA in English, I continued my education to get certification in postsecondary education as well as to receive licensure to substitute teach in Minnesota. I have been a substitute teacher for two years, and I have been with students ages 4 through 18. In addition, I was a teaching assistant for an interpersonal communication class at a college in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area.
