Whenever I can, I like to be very hands-on in my teaching my students. For example, once I was teaching my class about trees. I had them go outside and collect samples of bark which had fallen on the ground. Then we created a gigantic mural in my classroom and glued the pieces of bark to a tree we had drawn.
I have been a self-employed Tutor since April, 2006. Special needs and home schooled students are welcomed. Nothing makes me happier than when I see the smiles on the faces of my students when they succeed rather than fail. I assist all students in skill building and creating a life-long love of learning. Writing is one of my top subjects! I have had a large amount of writing experience in high school and college. I had an 800 on the Writing section of the SAT. I can tutor students regarding general writing skills, help them with specific papers, or prepare them for standardized writing exams.

I am a big proponent of the theory of multiple intelligences and believe that each student has certain styles of learning that work best for them. I aim to help students figure out how they learn best. Once they realize where their strengths are, they can incorporate the concept into all of their studies, not just the subject for which I happen to be tutoring them.

My comments on tutoring Writing : Elementary

I believe every student has their own style of learing. I am very much a visual learner and utilize this style. Many students, though, are tactile learners and/or find their attention is kept using computers. I love discovering what type of learner each child is.
