During high school I tutored at an elementary school during two summers for over 300 hours. From January-April 2013 I tutored the AVID program for 17.5 hours a week for all grade levels. From these experiences, I have learned how to encourage and instruct a variety of personalities and skill levels.

I got the tools you need to succeed !

I am currently a college sophomore at Florida Institute of Technology studying Computer Engineering so I know the problems a high school or school or college student would face in studies. Therefore, I will be able to communicate with m y students better and help them excel in studies and eliminate their weak points in any subject. I am an easy going and focused individual. I generally teach kids by relating the subject to something they are interested in. There is a very good example of this in the movie "Big", where Tom Hanks character is teaching algebra to a boy who likes basketball. This is a technique that I use frequently. Returned 7 years later and worked as a teacher"s aide in elementary school, then specialized for one year in a special ed classroom. Then began substituting in Spanish and French on a daily and long-term contracted basis in the Syosset, and Northport, L.I. school districts. The most important part of teaching is to teach students the principle or concept behind a subject. I do not believe in making students memorize absurdly large lists of facts in order to pass a test. Learning should be more fundamental than that. When a student has been successfully taught something, the student should be able to solve an array of problems with a common theme.
At college I worked as a tutor for two years in the areas of chemistry and mathematics. I earned BA's in chemistry and biochemistry and have some laboratory experience. Having been educated at a liberal arts school has also given me the opportunity to study philosophy and sociology. I also write well, as writing is emphasized in all disciplines of study at Knox. Previous to my college education, I was also active in my tutoring program in high school.
